Milwaukee has added four new products to its V28 line of 28-volt lithium-ion cordless tools–a 1-inch rotary hammer, a right-angle drill, a metal-cutting saw, and a jobsite radio–which offer up to two times more runtime and 40 to 50 percent more power than 18-volt tools at the same weight. Metabo now offers lithium-ion batteries for several of its cordless tool models. The batteries offer 40 percent higher performance and 40 percent less weight than traditional batteries, do not have memory effect, and can be stored for up to 18 months with no self discharge, says the firm. The batteries are available with a full line of drill/drivers, a recip saw, and a rotary hammer; users also can upgrade existing BSZ Series tools to use with lithium-ion batteries. The first 36-volt tool in the line, the 1-inch SDS-plus Bulldog rotary hammer (shown) weighs 9.5 pounds, 15 percent lighter than a 36-volt nicad-powered rotary hammer, says the firm. DeWalt's new line of 36-volt lithium-ion-battery-powered tools offers the power of corded tools with similar or less weight than corded counterparts, the maker says, and delivers two to three times more runtime than 18-volt products. The 36-volt SDS rotary hammer shown here offers the same impact energy (1.9 foot-pounds) as corded rotary hammers, but with a weight similar to corded and 18-volt models. It provides a no-load speed of 1,150 rpm and 4,400 bpm and offers a 1-inch capacity in concrete with an optimal drilling range of 1/4 inch to 5/8 inch in concrete. Shocks Active Vibration Control, a system of shock absorbers positioned between the handle and the hammer, reduces vibration to the lowest amount in its class, says the firm.
