General motors is recalling 2012-2013 Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks with 6.6 liter Diesel engines and dual fuel tanks for a potential issue with the transfer pump that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank. A pump malfunction could lead to inaccurate fuel gauge readings. No accidents have been reported but if the fuel gauge reads high it may result in the vehicle running out of fuel and unexpectedly stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.

General Motors will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel transfer pump, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 13420. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
