Tool and photo by Patrick Priebe

Created by Patrick Priebe, a German fellow who builds all kinds of outrageous laser gizmos, this cordless electric hammer (video below) is based on one that was designed by Homer Simpson in a 1998 episode of The Simpsons. Homer was having a midlife crisisso he decidedto follow in Thomas Edison’s footsteps by becoming an inventor; this hammer was one of the least ridiculous things he devised.

The video begins slowly, so you may want to skip ahead to the 0:45 mark. It looks to me like Priebe used a doorbell actuator to drive the head of the hammer. He did a very nice job on what he admits is a totally senseless tool.

I doubt the tool companies have much to fear from Simpson’s hammer, though Priebe might, because I hear Simpson has a pretty good patent attorney.
