When Sennheiser opened up its Albuquerque-based microphone and wireless technology plant in 2000, it had just 20 employees and a relatively modest footprint. Since then, as entertainers like Seal, Madonna, Sting, even recent "American Idol" contestants embraced Sennheiser's unique technology all around the world, the plant has brought jobs and explosive growth to the Duke City -- even in difficult economic times.
The continued demand of these innovative products -- which essentially enable artists to perform wirelessly while maintaining pristine live sound quality -- has led to consistent year-over-year growth for Sennheiser New Mexico, LLC, the Albuquerque-based facility which now boasts over 160 employees and 48,000 square feet. This Wednesday, the local Sennheiser plant is inviting members of the media for an exclusive guided tour of its facilities and a candid introduction to the cast members of the Sennheiser Sound Tour. RSVP to hummingbirdmedia@mac.com.
The Sound Tour is a highly creative, guerrilla-marketing concept designed to increase the German manufacturer's brand awareness among consumers in North America. While Sennheiser is widely known and respected among audio professionals for its high quality microphone technology, the Company launched its Tour to increase awareness among consumers for its diverse range of high-quality consumer headphones. During its visit, the Guys Team will be demoing headphones, capturing webisodes and having fun with their fellow Sennheiser colleagues.
Joe Fortuin, general manager of Sennheiser New Mexico, commented: "The success we have had in Albuquerque during the past decade reflects the relentless and passionate innovation of our products and employees around the world. This week, our innovative products and communications strategies converge as our plant becomes host to the Sennheiser Sound Tour. We look forward to welcoming the media to our facilities as well as giving them a chance to meet the Guys Team."
Competitive Teams and a Groundbreaking Campaign
The "Girls Team" and the "Guys Team" are integral campaign components of the Sennheiser Sound Tour; each team is assigned competitive tasks ranging from over-the-top outrageous to spectacularly goofy, with the ultimate goal of placing as many Sennheiser headphones on consumers' ears as possible.
SennheiserSoundTour.com -- complete with its regular Webisodes of team antics -- brings an "online reality show" dimension to the campaign and enables both fans and consumers to stay connected as the tour progresses. The teams are comprised of unique individuals with a startlingly broad range of backgrounds: there is a professional surfer, a championship gamer, a model and a professional photographer among many others.
Stefanie Reichert, vice president of strategic marketing, Sennheiser, commented: "The Sennheiser Sound Tour utilizes a combination of exciting, mostly unconventional avenues to reach today's diverse range of headphone consumers. Our campaign speaks to the individuality and confidence of contemporary electronics consumers, a market which includes music enthusiasts, online gamers, multimedia artists and musicians." In addition to posting weekly webisodes, the competing teams will also connect with fans and consumers via Twitter, Facebook and other social media avenues on a regular basis.
