Performance Test Results

Fully charged batteries were depleted by drilling holes through 2-by Douglas fir with Greenlee single-flute auger bits. Festool was not included in this test because its 5.2 Ah battery, the one that will be sold with the tool in the U.S., was not available in time.

Tools were tested using 1-inch single-flute Greenlee auger bits to drill through 2-by Douglas fir. Holes were drilled in the lowest and second lowest gear (a few models have more than two gears). Tools with more than two gears have a lower rpm second gear than two-speed tools, which provides an advantage in torque. The only tools that could complete this test in second gear besides the overall test winner have more than two speeds.

Tools were tested using 2 9/16-inch self-feeding bits to drill through 2-by Douglas fir. Holes were drilled in the lowest gear. Fein is not shown because it could not drill this size hole.

Tools were tested using 7/8-inch auger bits to drill through a 6-inch Douglas fir beam. Tools were tested in low gear. When tested in second gear, only the Makita, Hilti and Festool succeeded.
