Makita announced several new tools at an event in late May at the grand opening of its new distribution and training center in Wilber, Texas. Makita opened a new distribution and training center in Wilber, Texas, recently. Several folks from the media were invited to an event to celebrate its opening and to view some new tools that are on the horizon. The 227,000-square-foot facility sits on a large chunk of Makita’s 14.5-acre slice of Texas. Our guides were quick to point out that 227,000, which now covers about 10 acres, will eventually grow to 300,000 square feet. We were given all kinds of numbers, and I wrote them all down. I won’t regale you with any more of them because in the context of what we do, they’re not important. What is important, though, is what those numbers mean: Makita is investing in its place in the U.S. tool market in a big way. It will be interesting to see how that impacts our industry going forward. As a start, it had some pretty exciting new tools to announce.
