When I first started running residential construction jobs the electricians I dealt with did not do low-voltage wiring so I would find myself scrambling to line up a phone guy just before closing up walls, or worse, forget and close stuff up without any low voltage wiring in place. I researched the low-voltage items that normally go into our projects (telephones, doorbells, intercoms, speakers, and basic home networking) and found that the necessary tools and skills were easily acquired. It's legal in my state for licensed contractors to perform this kind of work so I started doing it myself; it was one less sub to keep track of and I could bill myself out instead of paying someone else.
