With the introduction of its new 18-volt impact driver, Hitachi is the latest company to enter the realm of brushless tools. An onboard processor chip and several digital toggles allow the user to fine-tune the tool's operation. The driver can be set to four separate speed ranges and a “limited” mode that stops the motor after four impacts. There's a battery gauge on the base and a button to activate the LED light. Despite the generous feature set, the tool is quite compact — about 6 inches long and just over 3.5 pounds.
