Late last week DeWalt's parent company, Stanley Black & Decker, purchased Powers Fasteners. Why should this matter to you? Well, it suggests that DeWalt plans to compete with Hilti in a more concerted way, which is good, because competition usually leads to better prices, service, and availability. Powers' product line is heavily skewed towards drilling and fastening concrete so this acquisition will have a greater effect on commercial contractors than it does on guys doing residential work. Jay Amstutz posted an interesting piece on DeWalt's purchase of Powers and the relationship between Hilti and its competitors on his blog at Industrial Supply Magazine posted a video in which officials from DeWalt and Powers (can't miss 'em – they're the stiff-looking guys in suits) tell their distributors why this purchase will be good for them.
