Very popular among my crew, the PR20EVS is meant to be a more versatile router with an adjustable speed control. The base system impressed everybody, there is a soft-start feature, and the visibility was good. Overall, it's a nice tool. And, for work in laminate, you can fully upfit the tool with offset and tilt bases that were not available for testing.

|DW673K||3.6 pounds||30,000 rpm||5.6||3-1/2 x 3-1/2 in.||9 in.||Yes|
This is a good tool with plenty of power, smooth operation, and an accurate micro adjustment. The case is well laid out and accepts the full complement of bases. While the instructions for using the accessories were clear, the accessories did not have an intuitive design and they were hard to use.

The awesome light on the bottom along with the clear plastic base make this the easiest to use because you can see your work clearly. Unfortunately, the tool comes with no case or bits, and the multi-fastener accessory design renders it less versatile than the other tools.

|97310||5 pounds||30,000 rpm||5.6||3-3/8 x 3-5/8 in.|| 7-1/2 in.||Yes|
This was our favorite for dedicated laminate work because of its clear, simple design. One screw attaches all the bases to the motor, it comes in a great case with two bits, the directions were educational, and the visibility was the best of the non-plastic bases.

|R2400||3.4 pounds||20,000?30,000 rpm||6||3-1/2-in. diameter||7 in.||No|
This is an impressive new entry. Its long, illuminated cord is great, and it has soft-start, adjustable speed, a nice case, and a terrific warranty. The only negatives: There's no micro adjustment on the base, no corner attachment, and no angled base, which somewhat limits versatility. We had to remove the base for bit change, but at $100 it's a superb value.

|TR45||3 pounds||25,000 rpm||4.5||3-1/2 x 3-1/2 in.||8-5/16 in.||No|
New and upgraded, the TR45 features two bases, one for work in laminates and a second, larger base designed for woodworking applications. Both bases are clear to maximize visibility and the tool-free clamp makes raising and lowering the bit smooth and easy. Attachable rubber handles and a sleek body design make the TR45 suitable for use as a mini-router, according to Ryobi.
