You may be familiar with L-Boxxes, the modular stacking storage cases that are the Bosch equivalent of Festool Systainers. Well, the GLI PortaLED is something more, it's an L-Boxx with LEDs built into the top so that the case can double as a work light.
Except for the LEDs, the outside of the case is the same as any L-Boxx; it can be carried alone or stacked and clipped on to other boxes. The inside of the box is open and can be used for storage – all but the back corner, where a 14.4- or 18-volt Bosch lithium-ion battery clips in. The switch is flush to the top and can be used to turn the light on or off, or set it to one of three levels of brightness. A support bracket under the lid allows the user to aim the light by holding the lid open at various angles. According to the manufacturer, the light has a runtime of 60 to 150 minutes (depending on brightness level and type of battery).
The case was introduced earlier this month in Germany. Bosch hasn't said anything about selling it elsewhere, though it seems likely they will – if for no other reason than they are really pushing L-Boxxes and the manual for this one is in multiple languages (including English).
I priced the smaller of the two GLI PortaLED boxes at Amazon Germany and it sells for 177 Euros, which is about $240 U.S. (the same size L-Boxx, minus the light, sells for about $60 at Amazon U.S.). It's a lot to spend for a toolbox and light, but if the light is as bright as it is in the photos, then this could be a handy item to have.
