DeWalt announced it will add to its line of tool security products a new truck-based radio-frequency identification (RFID) system called Tool Link that will help contractors inventory and track their tools. The system has been developed in conjunction with truck manufacturer Ford and technology specialist ThingMagic.

Contractors tag tools and equipment with special labels that identify each within the electronic inventory. Truck-mounted RFID equipment scans the truck for each tool, and the inventory reads out on a dashboard computer screen that will let the user know if something is missing. The system will be available next fall in a range of 2009 pickup and van models.
