Can’t afford a $6M pickup or even one that costs $300k? Well then there’s always the Polaris/Eicher Motors Multix Mini Truck, which will sell for $3,638—new. There’s a catch, though, you’ll have to go to the developing world to get one because there is zero chance the truck will be sold here.
The Multi Mini will be produced in India as part of a joint venture by Eicher Motors (India; makes trucks, buses, and motorcycles) and Polaris Industries (U.S.A.; makes ATVs, snowmobiles, and the Indian Motorcycle). It will be powered by a single-cylinder 510cc diesel engine mounted under the bed (hmm, where have we seen that before?), has seating for 5, and is said to be able to haul 1,100 pounds. The most interesting thing about the vehicle —besides the price—is that it is designed to function as a generator once it gets where it is going. The idea is not as wacky as it sounds; if Tesla can branch out from electric cars to a modular battery system designed to power a house, then why not this?
The Multi Mini is an example of getting what you pay for. You don't pay much, and you don't get much. Would I want to drive one of these things? Well, maybe just once, but well away from any normal size vehicles that might flatten me. Read more at the Fast Lane Truck.
