Chen Yu Chien is an amateur woodworker in Taiwan who designed and built a display table in the form of a workbench. It will likely never be used in a shop, but it's still worth a look. The overhang is attractive but not very practical and the end vise is mere decoration. Still, it would not take much to use this design aesthetic to produce a bench that was both beautiful and functional.

I built my own workbench 25 years ago and it has served me well. But if I’d known then how long I would have it I’d have made more of an effort to make it look good.

You can see more of Chen’s creations in his Flickr stream. And the Taiwan Review contains an interesting story about the school where he trained.
